About us

We are the Friends of Snakes Club.
Friends of snakes??? How can one be friends of snakes???U guys must be crazy

Yea this is the same line which I regularly hear from people. We know the importance of snakes in our ecosystem and are hell-bent in saving our friends, the snakes.

The Friends Of Snakes Club is a non-profit organization registered in the year 1995 under the Societies Act. The objectives of the Society are:

1. To work for conservation of snakes.

2. To conduct educational demonstrations in schools, colleges and other institutions to promote an interest and awareness and awareness in the public towards the role of Snakes in the environment.

3. To educate people in rural areas about snakes by removing myths and misconceptions and explain the importance of snakes in the natural rodent control and to give guidance for snake bite treatment.

4. To set up an Education and Conservation/Rescue Center having various types of snakes found in India.

5. To conduct research and studies related to various aspects ( behavioral, distributional, taxonomic etc..) of snakes of India.

6. To try to look for alternative sources of income for professional snake catchers so as to help curb the snake skin trade and stop road side shows which give people only wrong information about snakes.

7. To help research laboratories engaged in the development of life saving drugs from snake-venom, ensuring the welfare of snakes.

The Society has devoted itself over the last 10 years in rescuing snakes from urban areas and releasing them in the reserved Forest areas under permission from the Chief Wildlife Warden A.P. The society has also been conducting educational demonstrations in schools, public and private institutions, community centers and children camps organized by the Forest department under the Eco tourism program.
